MoU Signed between the Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh and Department of International Relations of University of Sindh, Jamshoro

The Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) and the Department of International Relations (IR) of University of Sindh, Jamshoro, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today on cooperation in areas of mutual interest relating to research, joint events, publications and internships.

The MoU was signed at the campus of the University in Jamshoro. On behalf of CISSS, Executive Director Ambassador Qazi M. Khalilullah (R) signed the MoU and on behalf of IR Department, Chairperson Professor Dr Ishrat Afshan Abbasi signed the MoU.

The Parties have agreed to jointly organize seminars, webinars, workshops, book launch and conferences on issues of mutual interest. Both sides will work together to raise public awareness about the benefits of peaceful of uses of nuclear, space and emerging technologies to the people of Pakistan. The Parties will also undertake joint research projects and cooperate in publication of books and research articles. CISSS will offer internship and fellowship opportunities to the students and graduates of IR Department of the University.

CISSS will extend all possible assistance to the IR Department in the implementation of a Bachelor’s degree level course on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Technology in Pakistan.

The signing of the MoU marks the culmination of a number of joint events organized by CISSS and IR Department of Sindh University since December 2022. These include: (i) Joint Conference on Strategic and Economic Dimensions of Pakistan-China Relations Amid Deepening Global Geopolitical Divide in December 2022; (ii) Seminar on Kashmir Issue: Past and Present in February 2023; (iii) Workshop on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Technology in March 2023, which was conducted by Dr Ansar Parvez, former Chairman PAEC at the University Campus; (iv) Visit of a 30-member delegation comprising faculty members and students of University of Sindh to K2 and K3 Nuclear Power Plants in Karachi in March 2023; and (v) Participation of students of IR Department in the Internship Program organized by CISSS for students of universities of Sindh in July-August 2023.

CISSS was established in Karachi on 1 July 2021 as a Think Tank to interact with key opinion makers from various walks of life and young scholars in Sindh with a view to developing a better understanding of Pakistan’s position on important regional and global issues. CISSS has since organized joint conferences, seminars and book launch events with many universities including University of Sindh Jamshoro, University of Karachi, Hamdard University, DHA Suffa University, Millennium Institute of Technology and Entrepreneurship (MiTE) and Institute of Business Management Karachi.
