Lt Col Azfar Bilal Qureshi TI (M) (Retd)

Lt Col Azfar Bilal Qureshi TI (M) (Retd) is Associate Director Research at the Center for International Strategic Studies Sindh (CISSS) and is heading one of the research teams. As a military officer he served in Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Director National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention and Disarmament Coordination, from May 2010 to November 2013, on secondment from Pakistan Army.

As Director Disarmament & National Authority, he represented Pakistan at various international and bilateral conferences, seminars and workshops on Chemical Weapons Convention. He has also attended various international courses related to the Convention.

Lt. Col. Azfar holds a Masters Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies from Quaid-e-Azam University, Islamabad, B.Sc (Hons) Degree in War Studies from Baluchistan University, Quetta and B.A. Economics Degree from Pakistan Military Academy. He has also attended Defence Governance and Management Course, Crainfield University, UK and Information Analysis and Management Course, Sydney, Australia.

He got commissioned in Pakistan Army in 1986 in Corps of Artillery and during 27 years’ career, served on various operational, command and instructional appointments. For his meritorious services he was awarded medal of distinction, Tamgha-e-Imtiaz (Military) in 2012, by the Government of Pakistan.
